Getting started

api4data gives you a clean client API to sync events and live markets. Call the endpoints in order so IDs stay linked correctly. Your server IP must be whitelisted before requests will work.

Rate limit: maximum 1 API call per second across all REST APIs (Sport list, Tournament list, Event list, Market list, Market details, and Horse/Greyhound Racing).

GET every sport and store sportId.

POST to receive tournaments for those sports.

Listen for instant market updates on the socket.

Introduction

Follow these steps for a full integration.

Step 1 — Sport list
Call /api/client/sportList. You receive every sport (sportId, sportName). Store these before loading tournaments.

Step 2 — Tournament list
Call /api/client/tournamentsList with tournamentId, tournamentName, and sportId set to 1. Each item includes tournamentId, tournamentName, and sportId from the Sport list.

Step 3 — Event list
Call /api/client/eventList. You receive the full event list. Save it locally so you can map users / UI to stable event ids.

Step 4 — Market list
Call /api/client/marketList with one or more eventId values from the Event list. Use page and limit for pagination (limit max 200).

Step 5 — Market details
Call /api/client/marketPrice with marketId values from Market list to get live market data for pricing / odds screens (max 200 market ids per request).

Step 6 — Socket · marketRate
Connect to https://socket.api4data.com and listen on the marketRate event. Whenever any market updates, you receive that update instantly over the socket — no need to keep polling Market details.

Tip: keep event and market ids exactly as returned by the API (string form). Do not transform or truncate them before the next request.

IP whitelist required: your server IP must be whitelisted before you can access the API and socket. Share your public IP with the api4data team so it can be added to the allowlist.

Sport list

Returns every sport. Use sportId when you read the Tournament list.

Returns every available event. Use this as your source of truth for event ids.

Socket · marketRate

Connect to the live socket and listen for the marketRate event. Any market update is pushed to you instantly — use this after you have loaded markets via the REST APIs.

Event

Event name	Description
`marketRate` listen	Fired whenever a market rate / price updates. Payload contains the latest market update so your UI can refresh instantly.

How it works

1. Connect your client to https://socket.api4data.com.

2. Subscribe / listen on the marketRate event.

3. On every market change, the socket emits marketRate with the update payload.

4. Apply that payload in your app immediately (no extra REST poll needed for live rates).

Horse racing and greyhound use their own market list, market details, and socket. Do not load these markets from Sport list, Event list, or socket.api4data.com.

Runner metadata

Each runner’s description.metadata carries the card details. Greyhound runners often only include runnerId.

Field	Description
`CLOTH_NUMBER`	Saddle cloth number. `CLOTH_NUMBER_ALPHA` is the same value as text.
`JOCKEY_NAME`	Jockey. `JOCKEY_CLAIM` is the claim in pounds.
`TRAINER_NAME`	Trainer. `OWNER_NAME` is the owner.
`AGE` / `SEX_TYPE` / `COLOUR_TYPE`	Age, sex, and colour. Example sex: `F`. Example colour: `B`, `CH`, `DK B/`.
`WEIGHT_VALUE`	Weight. Units are in `WEIGHT_UNITS` (example: `pounds`).
`STALL_DRAW`	Barrier / stall.
`FORM`	Recent form string. Example: `740`.
`SIRE_NAME` / `DAM_NAME` / `DAMSIRE_NAME`	Sire, dam, and damsire.
`DAYS_SINCE_LAST_RUN`	Days since the horse last raced.
`FORECASTPRICE_NUMERATOR` / `FORECASTPRICE_DENOMINATOR`	Forecast price as a fraction. Example: `46` / `5`.
`COLOURS_DESCRIPTION`	Silk description. Image URL is `COLOURS_FILENAME_URL`.
`WEARING`	Optional tack code. Example: `O`.
`state.adjustmentFactor`	Runner adjustment factor. `state.status` is `ACTIVE` while the runner is in the market.

Socket · HrGhMarketRate

Connect to the racing socket and listen for HrGhMarketRate. Horse racing and greyhound updates are pushed here. The main socket.api4data.com feed does not carry these markets.

Event

Event name	Description
`HrGhMarketRate` listen	Fired when a horse racing or greyhound market updates. The payload is wrapped: market fields sit on `value`, keyed by `exMarketId`.

Payload fields

Field	Description
`exMarketId`	Market id. Same value as `value.exMarketId` and the id you sent to Market details.
`key`	Market document id. Same as `_id` from Market list.
`sportId`	Sport id. Example: `4339` for greyhound.
`type`	Market type. Example: `match_odds`.
`value`	Full market. Includes `eventName`, `marketName`, `marketTime`, `runners` (back and lay), `runnerData` (selection id to display name), `state`, `sportName`, and `tournamentsName`.
`value.IsSettle` / `IsUnsettle` / `IsVoid`	Settlement flags. `0` or `1`.

How it works

1. Load markets with hr-ghMarketList and the snapshot with hr-ghMarketPrice.

2. Connect your client to https://hr-socket.api4data.com.

3. Listen on the HrGhMarketRate event.

4. On each push, read value and refresh that exMarketId in your UI.

Recommended order: Sport list → Tournament list → Event list → Market list → Market details → Socket marketRate.

Batching: eventId and marketId accept arrays, so you can request multiple ids in one call.
